DENS Given Early Christmas Presents

Published on: 18 Dec, 2013

Aitchisons began the season of goodwill with the donation of funds and essential items to DENS, the independent charity supporting homeless people in and around the Dacorum area of Hertfordshire (Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, Tring, Kings Langley and the surrounding villages).

A cheque to the amount of £150 together with essentials including thermals, rucksacks, hats, gloves and scarves, were presented to Andrew Liversidge (DENS Chief Executive) and Wade Dingle (DENS Centre Manager) by Andy Young, Director at Aitchisons.

Aitchisons has supported DENS for the past three years, assisting them at their stall at local Fun Days and being part of their sponsored walk in the Summer.

DENS started in 1998 as a temporary winter night shelter rotating around a number of the local church halls, during the worst winter months.

In 2003 DENS opened a permanent night shelter, open 365 nights a year and in 2005, opened a Day Centre for three days a week. In 2008 DENS began operating the Day Centre on a full time basis, five days a week.  The charity currently operates six main services: Dacorum Foodbank, DENS Day Centre, the Night Shelter, Move-On Accommodation, Dacorum Rent Aid, and DENS Retail.

Andy Young, Aitchisons, commented “We are looking forward to continuing our support of DENS throughout 2014 and beyond.  With Christmas approaching and the weather becoming colder, we wanted to do something to help those less fortunate.  There are lots of things the local community can do to help including re-gift your unwanted gift, bring excess Christmas food to the food bank, and so on.  In our office, staff decided to donate money to DENS instead of giving each other Christmas cards.  Everything helps.  Join us in supporting this local charity”.
